Goldiggers Memories

A collaborative project by Chippenham Museum, Wiltshire College and University Centre, and members of the public.

About

The Goldiggers project started with the realisation that a huge chunk of Chippenham’s social history had gone unrecorded.

The night club played a significant role in the life of the town in the 1980s but there was very little in the museum’s collection to reflect that.

Working in collaboration with film students from Wiltshire College and University Centre, the museum began collecting people’s memories in June 2018. Over the past few years we’ve spoken to dozens of people who worked there, danced there or met their life partners to the soundtrack of the Goldiggers sound system.

We are proud to add this oral history to the museum’s collection and hope it becomes a lasting legacy to the thousands of people who spent their formative years getting down at Goldiggers.

Thanks to all the students from Wiltshire College Chippenham who have contributed to this project.
